Eight Steeds
Eight Steeds in Burma Emerald: Eight steeds gallop with a wild energy, moving upward. Three have hooves touching the ground while those above are almost flying spirits.
In China as well as other cultures horses are symbols of vigor and effort. A view of wild horses in full flight will rivet most people, leaving us with a repeating memory of their drive. Likewise, in this carving, these horses express wishes borne out of drive, such as gain and victory. The thoughts and wishes above are many and generate rapid movement on the ground.
The carving has light touches of detail where it is necessary to bring movement to the piece. Otherwise the natural energy of the horse has been presented with simple proportional accuracy rendering the creature itself.
